Do children need previous riding experience in order to attend the camp? Since all camp riding takes place in groups, it is not designed for absolute beginners. However, children do not need extensive experience and we strongly recommend that they have taken at least 3 hours of lessons prior to joining camp. Lessons can be taken at Riverdale Riding Center, with our instructors How do I enroll my child? To enroll, simply complete the enclosed application and return it, along with full payment no fewer than one week prior to the start of the session. All enrollments are non-refundable. Children may miss one lesson which can be made up as a 1/2 hour private lesson (to be taken within 3 months of the finish of the session it relates to). Please keep in mind that space for each session is limited to no more than 20 children. We recommend that you sign up early to reserve a place for your child. What type of riding gear will my child need? Each child must have a correctly fitted safety riding helmet, gloves, long pants, crop and a shoe or boot with a hard sole and a low heel - sneakers are not permitted. All items should be clearly marked. Since most activities take place in the stable or riding arenas, children should be dressed according to the outdoor temperature (i.e. warm clothes in the winter months). What else should children bring to camp? As we will be working from The Pony Club Manual Book, D Level, it issuggested that each child has a copy of this book. It can be ordered directly from Barnes & Noble Bookstores. Horseback riding makes children hungry, so a light snack is recommended. There are drink and snack machines at the riding center. These machines accept $1 bills. For additional information, please call James at Riverdale Riding Center Tel: 718 548 4848 |
